Honorable Mentions
Quarterbacks
Luke Weaver (SJSU) 25% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- Playoff Match-Up Target
- With two games under his belt, Weaver has scored 33.9 & 24.8 fantasy points. Last week at Eastern Michigan he went 23/39 for 316 yards and 3 passing TD’s. He’s throw the ball 30+ times every game, and is averaging 9 carries/game despite not being that productive from a rushing yardage standpoint. His next two games also provide excellent fantasy match-up.
Braden Atkinson (OreSt) 5% Rostered
- Volume Workload Target
- If there’s on thing I liked about this Oregon State offense in the offseason is that they’ll be in a bunch of games where they’re going to need to throw the football a ton. Last week at Houston Atkinson threw the ball 48 times for 376 yards but only 1 TD. He will be more successful finding the end zone once Week 3 comes around and the schedule gets easier. He gives you no rushing upside so he’ll need to keep throwing the ball 38+ times a game to hold fantasy value.
Cole Gonzales (UNCC) 1% Rostered
- Volume Workload Target
- I’m a fan of HC Tim Albin’s offensive history and we saw good production last weekend, although it was against The Citadel in a loss. Seeing a competitive game was a good thing as Gonzales threw the ball 41 times, while scoring 3 TD’s in the air and 2 on the ground. You won’t be able to count on him scoring 5 TD’s once conference play starts and his 2 INT’s are worrisome considering the level of competition he played.
JC French (Cin) 19% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- I had a feeling this summer that French would find fantasy value at Cincinnati. Last week against Boston College he showed he could play at a high level against a power 4 school and scored 31.05 fantasy points with a total of 4 TD’s. The fact he only threw for one of those isn’t a good thing, but I like that the coaches will utilize his legs around the goal line. His next two match-ups are great making him a good QB2 spot starter.
KJ Jackson (Ark) 15% Rostered
- I’m digging into Jackson’s numbers and not getting caught up on him only scoring 24.05 fantasy points against North Alabama. I like the workload he was given, throwing the ball 35 times and rushing the ball 10 times. I just wish he was more efficient with his rushing yardage. I see OC Tim Cramsey improving this offense as the year progresses. Jackson might honestly be more of a long term pick up guy as the short term fantasy match-ups are not good.
Running Backs
Ajay Allen (W Ky) 15% Rostered
- Volume Workload Target
- I usually don’t recommend picking up Western Kentucky RB’s , but Allen’s 21 carries at Nevada last week grabbed my eye. The passing game wasn’t clicking well which may have lead to Allen’s inflated workload. While I have some doubts I’m never going to ignore a fantasy RB who’s getting 18+ carries a game. You could probably wait to pick him up as his next two match-ups are bad.
Shavane Anderson (Syr) 0% Rostered
- There are injuries in the Syracuse backfield which has caused uncertainty about the two deep, but Anderson made the most of his opportunity last week. He was the primary RB but was pulled after just 10 carries which he took and ran for 102 yards and 3 TD’s. Tylik Hill lead the team with 15 carries but by that point the game was out of hand and Anderson was watching from the sidelines. These next two weeks will tell us if Anderson will be “the guy” in this Syracuse backfield. If I see him dominate the carry distribution and get 4-5 targets/game I’ll be all-in on Anderson.
Khamani Alexander (UNCC) 0% Rostered
- Alexander is a name that might be worth stashing away for a couple of weeks. While the coaches split carries between Alexander and Chance Williams, you could see that Alexander is the top guy. He had a long 66 yard rush in last week’s loss against The Citadel. If you remove that one carry you’ll see that Alexander ran the ball 13 times for 72 yards compared to William’s 11 carries for 42 yards. I would recommend passing on him in the waiver wire, and once waivers run grab him as a free agent. Next week’s match up with Ole Miss should scare off most people.
Yasin Willis (Kan) 23% Rostered
- Playoff Match-Up Target
- I don’t think we can read too much into rushing workloads as Kansas destroyed Long Island University and spread the ball around to everyone. Willis tied for the most carries on the day, but he was more efficient with his touches, gaining 6.5 yards per carry and scoring 2 TD’s. There’s room for a Kansas RB to be a productive fantasy flex and on Saturday it looked like Willis is their main guy. Willis is more of a grab and stash as he only has one good fantasy match-up in the next three weeks.
Jeffrey Overton (VaTec) 29% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- Overton is the RB2 in an offense that has prominently featured two fantasy worthy RB’s. This game against VMI was ugly and starting RB Marcellous Hawkins hammered the defense for 3 TD’s, Overton came in after Hawkins sat the rest of the game. Overton had 104 yards and 2 TD’s rushing on 9 carries. In fact Overton was more productive on the day averaging 11.6 yards/carry. He’s going to see his touches as this season progresses and the next three weeks look to have good fantasy match-ups on top of it.
Wide Receivers
Donovan Olugbode (Mizzou) 26% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- The Missouri offense opened the season by blasting Arkansas Pine-Bluff 54-14. The passing game was clicking and Olugbode was the top WR on the day with 8 targets for 8 receptions, 116 yards and 2 TD’s. There’s a couple reasons he doesn’t make my top waiver wire target selections. He averaged 14.5 yards/reception and scored a TD once every 2 receptions. These type of stats can’t me maintained. Also, when going back to 2018 in OC Chip Lindsey’s history he’s only had 3 WR’s get 75+ targets in a season which will limit Olugbode’s fantasy value.
Chance Morrow (Buff) 0% Rostered

- Volume Workload Target
- After what I saw from Buffalo’s box score I almost got to the point to say that Morrow is a must grab player this week. The offense wasn’t great against Albany but the passing game was much better than the rushing game. Marrow scored all of Buffalo’s 3 TD’s on the day and led the team in targets with 14. What made him fall into my honorable mention section was his 6.9 yards/reception is very low. Two of his next three games are good match-ups which should give us more clarity on him, but also more competition for him on waivers.
Kelby Valsin (FlAtl) 1% Rostered

- Playoff Match-Up Target
- It looks like we now know who the WR2 is going to be for this high flying owl’s offense. Playing at Florida he registered 16 targets for 10 receptions, 92 yards and 1 TD. I know the FAU offense will be more balanced when they’re not playing a Power 4 school, but there’s fantasy value for the WR2 in this offense. Three times in the last five years the WR2 has received 90+ targets and scored 150+ fantasy points twice. The next three weeks also serve up some tasty fantasy match-ups.
Ashton Hollins (GaSo) 2% Rostered

- This is another example of me targeting offensive systems known for WR fantasy value. Hollins finished last week as the team’s leading WR with 11 targets for 8 receptions, 106 yards and 1 TD. Over the last four seasons the WR1 in this offense has received 100+ targets three times and scored 175+ fantasy points twice. I still don’t know how good this Georgia Southern passing game will be this year but I’ll bet on that history. This could be another player that you pass on during waivers and grab him as a free agent after since the Clemson match-up may scare off other fantasy owners.
Jesse Legree (OreSt) 1% Rostered
- I mentioned in the QB’s section that I have my eye on the Oregon State passing game and I’m going to include their top WR. Legree was the offense’s WR1 at Houston racking up 8 targets with 5 receptions, 136 yards and 1 TD. What grabbed my eye was that Legree could make big plays down the field as he had a 71 yarder last week. Even if you take that one play out he would have had 4 receptions for 65 yards with a 16.25 yards/reception average. Those are good baseline numbers in my eyes.
Tight Ends
Kevin Roche (GATec) 1% Rostered
- Volume Workload Target
- I had no clue what to expect from the TE position at Georgia Tech this year with the offensive system change. While the offense didn’t look great against Colorado, it gave us a competitive game which is the scenario where fantasy TE’s tend to produce best. Roche had 6 targets throw his way which is the main thing that grabbed my eye. The 4 receptions for 37 yards and not TD’s isn’t good, but there was a target workload that could be built off of. I think he’ll only be an option for you if you need a spot starter and he has a competitive match-up.
