Honorable Mentions
Quarterbacks
Katin Houser (Ill) 29% Rostered
- Houser has been a solid fit at Illinois this season. Against UAB he scored 30 fantasy points on a day where he only threw the ball 17 times. Last week against Duke he put up 25.35 fantasy points while going 24/35 for 271 yards, 3 TD’s and 1 INT. There’s nothing flashy about Houser but he is producing and two of his next three games are perfect if you need to find a spot starter as your QB2 in your line up.
Tayven Jackson (NorTx) 11% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- Playoff Match-Up Target
- Jackson didn’t show us much in Week 1 but that was expected as he took on Indiana. Last week against UNLV he had a 27.15 fantasy point day. His volume was low but still provided decent stats with 15/26 for 233 yards and 2 TD’s in the air to go with 7 carries for 15 yards and 1 TD on the ground. Jackson’s next three games are good match-ups so he could provide you some immediate relief if you’re having to overhaul your QB room.
Kalieb Osborne (UConn) 20% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- We’ve seen two sides of Osborne this season. Week 1 showed us a blow out win against an FCS school. Last week he struggled against Maryland. His fantasy point production in those two games was 40.25 & 16.8 fantasy points. He should settle somewhere between those numbers moving forward. This week’s game with Southern Miss is the best match-up he has for a while, and we’ll still need to see how many start worth games he has remaining on the schedule.
Jared Curtis (Vand) 29% Rostered
- I want to lead out by saying that Curtis is a grab and stash play. Last week’s starting QB Blaze Berlowitz struggled on the day as the coaches swapped Berowitz and Curtis out multiple times. Curtis played the whole second half and scored 3 total TD’s in his 32.6 fantasy point performance against Delaware. This week’s game against NC State is the best match-up of the next three weeks. There is potential upside with Curtis but the situation is so fluid you need to leave him on your bench for a while if you pick him up.
Running Backs
Ohifame Ijeboi (Pur) 26% Rostered
- Volume Workload Target
- Ijeboi will be the hottest RB name on this week’s waiver wire but I have reservations which is why he landed in my honorable mention section. Last week’s game with Wake Forest is the best match-up on the season for this offense. Two teams that are equally talented, and a game that went into multiple OT’s always helps. Those OT periods have inflated what his workload will really be like for Big Ten play. To top everything off, I can’t see the Purdue offense running the ball as effectively in conference play.
Keveun Mason (Tem) 29% Rostered
- RB Sam Brown has sat out the last two games and Mason has been dangerous in his place. Two weeks ago he scored 32.2 fantasy points against an FCS school. His stats don’t look good last week against Penn State, but he averaged 5.4 yards/carry and his 76 total rushing yards was only inflated by a longest run of 22 yards. That means he’s ripping of good runs consistently, instead of having one run that was 70% of his total rushing. Mason is playing so well that they might have to keep him on the field once Brown returns.
Lanear McCrary (GASt) 1% Rostered
- I think I’m coming onto McCrary one week early but that’s perfect. he’s been battling DJ Murray for carries but last week’s game looked like McCrary is taking the lead. In Week 1 McCrary held a 9 carries to 7 lead. Last week he received 19 carries compared to Murray’s 9 carries. If this trend continues this week against UCF, then McCrary could be a startable fantasy asset in Week 4 with a good match-up against NIU.
Wide Receivers
Brendan Jenkins (SoAl) 1% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- Volume Workload Target
- Playoff Match-Up Target
- WR Anthony Eager was expected to the the team’s WR1. He’s been dealing with a hand injury and in his place Jenkins has emerged. He had 8 targets in week 1 and 14 targets last week. He’s averaging 14 yards/reception and he’s scored in every game this year. If it weren’t for the Eager concerns he would make my top 3 waiver wire WR’s this week.
Na’eem Abdul-Rahim Gladding (MD) 8% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- Volume Workload Target
- Gladding has been the team’s leader in targets this season. Against a FCS school in week 1 he received 7 targets, and last week against UConn he had 10 targets. He’s found the end zone every week and looks to have a good relationship established with QB Malik Washington. This offense will need to lean on the passing game more when conference play picks up. All of his next three week’s look to be match-ups were you can set him in your starting line up.
Jalen Mickens (LT) 3% Rostered
- Playoff Match-Up Target
- Mickens in the primary deep threat in the Louisiana Tech offense. He’s averaging 26 yards/reception this season with total of 9 receptions in two games. You can’t ignore his ability to score fantasy points, but he could be a boom or bust candidate from week to week. He scored 23.9 fantasy points in week one. If you remove his one TD play, he’s left with 3 targets for 2 completions, 58 yards and no TD’s. In week 2 he scored 17.1 fantasy points and when we move his one TD play he’s left with 9 targets with 5 receptions for 22 yards and 0 TD’s.
Li’atama Uiliata (Haw) 24% Rostered
- Playoff Match-Up Target
- Yes I am still singing the praises of Uiliata since Week 0. Last week against New Mexico State he produced 20 fantasy points from 11 targets for 10 receptions, 107 yards with no TD’s. Since he’s on a bye this week you could hold off on waivers and get him as a free agent after waivers runs. His schedule opens up very nicely which is filled with match-ups that he should be in you starting line up.
Jeremiah Melvin (ECU) 2% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- Playoff Match-Up Target
- We’re still waiting to see this East Carolina passing game take off, and through two games it appears that Melvin is the WR1. I felt like there was nothing solid we could take away from the Alabama game from Week 1. Last week against Appalachian State Melvin was fed 11 targets. His fantasy point production is lacking right now but that could change quickly over the next two weeks as he has good match-ups with Old Dominion and an FCS school.
Tight Ends
Noah Bennee (Utah) 1% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- The thing I like most about Bennee is that he has a nose for the end zone, scoring a TD in each game this season. I believe fantasy TE’s are their best in games that are competitive and challenging. The next games of Utah State and Iowa State could provide that exact match-up where Bennee could shine.
Daunte Bacheyie (Syr) 0% Rostered
- Current Week Match-up Target
- Bacheyie is another TE who finds ways to score TD’s on a low workload volume. We didn’t get any indication from the Week 1 blowout that he would be involved in the offense much. Last week’s competitive game with California provided the stage for the coaches to utilize Bacheyie more. He finishes the day with 5 targets for 4 receptions, 73 yards and 1 TD; good enough for 15.3 fantasy points.
